What’s On My Mind Link Love

Published by tinasam under Uncategorized Edit This

Been reading around and while there are some blogs that are personal favourites and those that just have some good articles that I found, there is a few shout-outs I’d like to make concerning the business of chronic pain and blogging.

Pain Relief 101 is always laid out nicely and timely. I’m especially reading their Social Security and Fibromyalgia post.

Migraine Chick is keeping me in stitches with her Retro Pain Game.

IC Disease has made me ponder the thought of Marshmallow Root Tea for IC Disease (I’m eating marshmallows and drinking sweet tea as I read this, working by osmosis maybe??)

Working with Chronic Illness raises good points in her article about Sometimes its not about when you disclose your chronic illness.

Happy Fibro Family is having her Acupuncture Experiment, I’m wishing her well.

Pain for Philosophers is talking about Fibromyalgia and Pain Memory.

And About.com’s Pain page is discussing topical ibuprofen for knee relief.

If you have time check out these for great reads.

The IC Diet Article Roundup

Published by tinasam under Conditions, living Edit This

Anyone with IC knows that diet is the most important part of your treatment. Interstitial Cystitis is not curable but it is slightly controllable when you are eating the right foods and avoiding certain “trigger foods”.  Earlier in this blog I did a post on the IC foods list. This was important in showing you the foods that are ok and which ones aren’t ok.

http://chronicpain.today.com/2008/05/14/interstitial-cystitis-foods-list/

There is a very real link to IC and acidic foods, these foods that are more acidic than alkaline in the pH scale. Those links and the full article on that can be found in two parts:

http://chronicpain.today.com/2008/06/03/ic-and-acidic-foods-part-2/

And then finally, Sandy over at IC Disease and Fighting Fatigue, has a six part set of articles all about IC and the Elimination Diet. These articles are great to really get a thorough understanding of how diet is crucial to your IC therapy.

IC Elimination Diet: Part 1

IC Elimination Diet: Part 2

IC Elimination Diet: Part 3

IC Elimination Diet: Vitamins/Supplements to Avoid

IC Elimination Diet(Part 5): What the IC Network Recommends

New FDA Cleared pain-relieving laser debuts in Southern California (press release)

Published by tinasam under Uncategorized Edit This

Dana Point, CA - May 17, 2008 (PRN): Southern California now boasts one of Europe’s most successful, long-used pain treatments: Class IV Laser Therapy, also known as Photo Medicine. Cleared by the FDA recently, Laser Therapy will now be used at the new Pacifica Laser Therapy Center, one of the first treatment centers in the Southern California region to use the pain-relieving technology.

Dr. Terry Riley, co-owner of Pacifica Laser Therapy notes, “The Italian-made Class IV Laser we use for Laser Therapy is a pain-free, non-invasive, drug-free, non-surgical, and virtually side-effect free treatment. There is no doubt that the future in pain management is here now, and I am thrilled to be one of the first in the nation to offer Laser Therapy.”

Pacifica Laser Therapy will offer ten to twenty minute treatments, administered by a Certified Laser Technician. During each session, the Class IV laser’s energy increases circulation, drawing water, oxygen, and nutrients to a painful and damaged area. Published studies have demonstrated the clinical effectiveness of laser therapy for those who suffer aliments including Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, shoulder and back pain, fibromyalgia, carpal tunnel syndrome, Plantar Fasciitis, ligament sprains, lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow), Herpes Zoster(shingles), burns and more.

“Given the response we’ve had so far, we’re confident Class IV Laser Therapy will soon be a common and well practiced treatment,” adds Dr. Riley. “We just want to give our patients an effective treatment to any number of painful problems. Medical outcomes, such as pain relief and improved injury recovery are nothing short of astonishing.

Additional Pacifica Therapy Centers are scheduled to open over the next few years throughout Southern California.
