Free “Chair Yoga for Good Living” Book
The Pain Foundation has a free “Chair Yoga for Good Living” book that describes a 6 week course on using Chair yoga for chronic pain and pain relief. You can find the book in its PDF form (you will need the free Adobe reader on your computer to download it) and the 29 page book on their website or on the “Chair Yoga for Good Living” direct link. The easily printable poster that is illustrated to help go with the book is found on an alternate weblink and is entitled “Chair Yoga for Relaxation”.
The book was written by Sosha Stuckey for the American Pain Foundation and was done so with a grant from the Baltimore Community Foundation. The book, while not being very long, describes using yoga done with a chair (perfect for office breaks if you aren’t too shy) as a way to relief stress, pain, and stiffness. The course is outlined by week and is as follows:
- Week 1: Being Positive
- Week 2: Being Mindful
- Week 3: Being in Community
- Week 4: Being Love
- Week 5: Being Compassion
- Week 6: Just Plain Being
According to the book “The course is appropriate for those who do or do not use wheelchairs, who live in long term care facilities or live independently, and who cope daily with chronic pain, stress, illness, and disability. Each session lasts one hour and is meant to bring about a feeling of ease and well-being. When we encourage feelings of ease over stress and tension, the perception of pain can be altered. By the end of the six week course, participants will have an understanding of how to incorporate relaxation and stress relief into their daily lives.” Check it out and see if its helpful to you and yours.

Great resource, thanks!
