Last Day For Contest

Welcome to Chronic Pain Today’s first CONTEST!

It can be a poem, it can be a cartoon (I’m looking at you Chato) an essay (under 300 words please), or a picture. What I’m wanting to see is the best depiction of how pets can help you cope with having a chronic pain condition. All entries need to be emailed to me  with the subject line of CPT:CONTEST.

Contest will end at midnight EST June 30th and winners will be announced on this site on July 1st.

Free Humalog KwikPen Insulin

Eli Lilly and Company has put out a voucher that will give people with valid prescriptions a free five pack of Humalog insulin in the KwikPen format.  These pens are easier to carry and they have very little margin of error on the amount of insulin  you will inject into your body. This voucher is good for the Humalog KwikPen, Humalog Mix 75/25, and Humalog Mix 50/50. Each voucher is good for five prefilled 3ml pens, needles will need to be purchased separately. This voucher is also good til the end of the 2008 yr as well so there is little to no rush on getting it to the pharmacy.

Osteoarthritis is common in those that are over 50 yrs of age and may be disabling depending on age and the joint that is affected. This type of arthritis is typically linked to joints giving out but instead may be due to an imbalance of enzymes in the body. The pain of osteoarthritis may come and go but the condition is chronic. People with OA will need to learn coping techniques through journaling, pain medications, and meditation.



Osteoarthritis symptoms include:

  • Redness and warmth and aching in joints

  • Swelling and/or bony lumps around the joint with loss of flexibility

Lyrica is the first prescription medication approved by the FDA to treat Fibromyalgia. A schedule V controlled substance, Lyrica is typically used to treat nerve pain and is classified as an anticonvulsant. Lyrica can also treat neuropathic pain in diabetics and postherpetic neuralgia.

Pregabalin, the drug that makes up Lyrica (brand name of Pfizer Inc. out of New York) does well in double blind studies for the three to six million people who suffer from fibromyalgia.
