Living With Chronic Pain: The Complete Health Guide to the Causes and Cures for Chronic Pain, By Dr. Jennifer P Schneider, MD, PhD

Healthy Living Books, Hatherleigh Press ©2004 ISBN 1-57826-175-9

Dr. Jennifer Schneider is an expert in pain management, and this book incorporates a very well thought out plan, with case histories, to living life with a chronic pain condition. The book focuses on pain medications, alternative therapies, and a very well done discussion of the myths of pain. It uses your personality type to show you your ability to cope with pain. Once you have identified what personality type you are, you will see how you are dealing with the pain and how you can alter how the pain affects you. There are chapters on the causes of pain, deciding on which doctor may be right for your course of treatment, pain coping techniques, and on opiods. I believe that Living With Chronic Pain is great for those looking for a very well rounded Chronic Pain 101 type of book.

The book comes in at 352 pages and averages less than $16 in price. It personalizes itself to the patient in the way it categorizes pain by your personality. It has many coping strategies that I’ve found helpful, and it explains how each patient will have their pain affect them. Dr Schneider shows us how to manage the everyday pain of living with a chronic pain condition, and is a true professional that has authored numerous books on the subject so that patients can find their comfort and peace in their illness.
